While I was on work experience at Zoo Magazine, I was lucky enough to attend a screening of Ghost Rider 2, I’d heard rumblings that it wasn’t good, but I was excited nonetheless and really it was mostly what I expected.
The story is nonsense more or less, the action is Neveldine/Taylor-esque and Nicolas Cage is turned up to eleven.
The story follows thus, Johnny Blaze wants rid of his Ghost Rider persona, it’s taking over, and Idris Elba tells him that if he helps to protect/get back a child (believed to be the son of Satan) then he can remove the Ghost Rider from him.
Cage this time around plays both Johnny Blaze and the Ghost Rider, enabling him to really get into the movements of the Ghost Rider. This means he acts very snakelike, moving from side to side with jerky movements. It also means that in scenes where he’s trying to stop the Ghost Rider from coming out, he goes a bit schizo, yelling and whispering in equal amounts.
The Crank feel to the film adds something a bit extra and the action is massively enjoyable. Especially when the Rider takes over vehicles ranging from a flat-bed truck to a huge piece of machinery.
What detracts from the film is the weak CGI for the Ghost Rider, and a slow final third where it all goes a bit supernatural, too much religious nonsense, too much jargon that may or may not have made sense to readers of the comic.
If you switch off your brain and tune your mind to ride along with the nonsense then this is going to be a very enjoyable film. I have a feeling I’m going to be in the minority who likes it, but that doesn’t matter.

Eric has rocked my balls off so many times I’m surprised I have any left. Here he metalizes some of the most iconic Batman scores as only he can. I was especially delighted when he did the theme from Batman Beyond.
